Preseason

  • Make sure your entire roster/schedule is correct on your stats.NCAA.org pageAs roster, schedule, and game times change return to the NCAA database often to keep it up to date. Editing a Roster or Schedule in the NCAA Statistics database.
  • If you have to change a player’s name/number, do it on your team’s NCAA Roster Page, using the edit roster feature. 
  • If your game time changes, please edit it in the NCAA Database, while also please checking to make sure your game times are as updated as possible. A lot of times, teams submit their schedules before times are given and they show up with a default 12:00 am game time.

  • On the Games List in the NSCM, change all of your home game platforms from StatCrew to LiveStats, by clicking on the StatCrew link.

Pregame

  • If you are a SIDEARM customer using xml-less live stats, copy the Match ID from your NSCM page, and paste it in the available space in the Sidearm Live Stats Control Panel on the back end of your SIDEARM website.
  • If you use the In-Arena Utility, open that program before you open up the NCAA LiveStats for Ice Hockey program. When to Active your In-Arena Utility
  • After opening the IAU, load your Game Key into NLS 1-3 hours before the start of the game. DO NOT do it the night before the game. In-Arena Utility (IAU) Guide / Creating a game with a Game Key
  • Select the proper Overtime settings (Shootouts etc.) on the Game Information tab. Be sure to verify the overtime format and if a Shootout will or will not be played.
  • On the Players tab, make sure you have all the necessary players active/inactive and that you set up your lines. If you do not have the correct positions or number of players in each line, those errors will be highlighted in red.
  • If a player does not appear on your roster after you enter the Game Key, please use “Add Player” and enter the name and number as a new entry. DO NOT TYPE OVER THE NAME OF ANOTHER PLAYER. You may edit a player’s number, but never type over a name.
  • Set up the attacking zone for each team oriented to how the statistician is viewing the ice.

 

 

In-Game

  • Video tutorials
  • On penalties, take care in choose PP or No PP
    • PP means this team is reduced on the ice by one player (even if the reduction doesn’t result in a statistical power play).
    • No PP means this team is not reduced by one player on the ice.
      • When a goal is scored or a penalty is called, take a moment to align your NLS clock with the scoreboard clock so that they are in agreement. Videos: Goals / Basic Penalties
    • Penalty shots should be inputted as follows. Video: Penalty Shot
      1. Stop Clock
      2. Select Penalty Shot for the team that will receive the attempt
      3. Choose the player that will attempt the shot and mark the location where the shot was taken.
      4. Choose the Result, and if it was a goal, confirm the goal.
      5. In either case, the user will be directed to penalty entry page to select the details. All Penalty Shots have a penalty attached even though no penalty box time is served. All Penalty Shots have a penalty attached to them.
      6. Choose No Power Play and Remains in game on the Penalty workflow so that no Power Play is credited.
  • If you miss entering a penalty shot, you can add it in the full screen Action Log.
  • If a penalty is charged at the end of the period, put the penalty in before finalizing the period.
  • In VAR Confirmation situations, enter the goal, then the VAR Review and finally the ensuing faceoff information. 
  • Do Not Confirm a Period End until you are certain the period is over.
  • Remember to always End Period, Confirm Period, and then set up a new period.
  • Make sure all penalties have a foul start and foul end.
  • If the game goes to overtime and ends with a goal, make sure you don’t finalize until the goal is deemed good.
  • After an overtime game-winning goal, make sure your clock time at finalization matches the time of the final goal.
  • After an overtime game-winning goal, be sure to Confirm that you wish to end the game.
  • Additionally following an OT winner, make sure your time at finalization matches the time of the final goal.
  • At the end of the game, if you have to end a penalty, don’t end the period and then end the penalty. Insert Foul End, before Period End.

 

 

Postgame

  • For participation, NLS will display all players who did not record a statistic in the game. Click all players who did not play to confirm them as non-participants. This typically includes back-up goalies but could include other players as well. If a player did play leave them as they are. 
  • Be sure to click “Confirm Selection” on the participation dialog.
  • It is optional to enter in Three Stars of game. If you do enter #1 star, #2 star, then #3 star. 
  • Do not update team records. NLS will automatically credit the win and loss (or tie) to appropriate teams. There is also no need to update goalie records. They will be update automatically.
  • Try not to finalize with flags. If you click the play and click the Review icon, the program will tell you why the flag is present. Action time out of sequence is the most common. Adjust the times to put the plays in the proper order. 
  • Before attempting to edit a Finalized game, close the NCAA LiveStats application and re-open it.
  • To edit a Finalized game, choose Load Past Game from the home menu, and paste in the Game Key. Make all necessary edits and choose “Publish & Close.”
