This update in the ruling appears in the 2020-21 Official NCAA Basketball Statisticians' Manual. The definition is featured on Page 13 under Definitions for Specialty Statistical Categories, which reads as follows:
Fast Break Points—Points scored on a quick counterattack
following a change of possession before the offense or defense
is set. New for 2020-21:
Fast break points can be counted when a FGA resulting in fast break points is made. Fast break points can also be counted for free throws resulting from a shooting foul called on a fast break FGA. If a team is in a bonus situation, and Team A commits a non-shooting foul on a player on Team B to prevent a fast break or in a fast break, free throws will not count as fast break points.
